Welcome to the valley of the river Svratka, formerly also known as Švarcava. A river that has been a vital artery across the Highlands for centuries, paving its way through deep valleys, between rocks, flowing further through the already flat landscape to the Novomlýn reservoirs. The arteries of modern civilization are often called highways, while, historically, this epithet was associated with rivers. It was no different in Vysočina, where the settlement known to us copied the deep bed of the river Svratka. The famous Pernštejn family also chose this region for the construction of their magnificent Gothic residence, thanks to which a number of different-sized and important guard castles were built in the wider area.
